3D Environment Lighting is our new 66-page tutorial series, where over the course of six chapters we detail techniques on lighting an environment under a number of different conditions. Each chapter covers a step-by-step guide to setting up lights, aimed at portraying the scene in a specific manner.

The various chapters are tailored to specific software packages, and each aims to show a comprehensive and effective way of lighting an interior of a ship that includes both natural and artificial light. These include a sunny afternoon, sunset, moonlight, electric light, candlelight and finally a submerged submarine light. The schedule is as follows:

Chapter 01:
Sunny Afternoon Cinema 4D offers a solution which is pretty quick and simple to obtain renders of a high quality – you just have to be patient though, because Global Illumination means longer render times! In this first tutorial we illuminate a ship’s cabin using natural exterior light: the Sun. The environmental condition for this is sunlight flooding through the windows on a sunny afternoon.

Chapter 02:
Twilight In this second part we learn how to illuminate the ship cabin using natural exterior light, for which the environmental condition is ‘sunset’.

Chapter 03:
Moonlight In this chapter we learn how to illuminate our ship cabin using natural exterior light. The environmental condition this time is ‘moonlight’.

Chapter 04:
Electrical This time we cover how to illuminate theship cabin using artificial light.

Chapter 05:
Candlelight In this 5th chapter we learn how to illuminate our ship cabin using candlelight.

Chapter 06:
Underwater In this 6th chapter cover how to create an underwater lighting situation for our ship cabin scene.
