Project Dogwaffle is affordable paint software for the PC with built-in, user-defined, animated & fractal particle brushes. A companion to your 2D+3D web authoring or animation tools, or as your first step into virtual art and matte painting with mouse or tablet, it is here for you to paint, sketch, animate and paint... almost like on the real thing, but without the mess or occasional spill!

Draw Anime, enjoy nature painting, edit photos & digital images, add special FX to CG animations and your home movies, do professional post work, and create fantasy art. For developers and VB programmers there's also a free SDK to extend Dogwaffle with more filters and plugins.
"The recently introduced exposure sheet needed a few improvements for professional use and we feel that this has been nicely accomplished", said Dan Ritchie. "Likewise, we wanted to add Spline interpolation between keyframes on the Timeline editor, as well as undo and the ability to stop the rendering in progress to increase productivity. But perhaps the most significant new feature in this update is the Penny plugin - a new rendering engine with spline interpolation for keeping smooth curves no matter how fast your hand is and how slow the sampling rate of your tablet.'

With a new rendering engine for Spline interpolation between recorded positions coming from the mouse or tablet, cartoonists and illustrators will be more productive and able to sketch quickly at their preferred pace. No more line segments even when drawing very quickly at strong curvature.

Penny opens a copy of your current buffer and lets you draw with a mouse or tablet using fully anti-aliased, spline based lines in several built-in styles like ink, watercolor, and gel. You can also apply a paper texture and import new papers as well. The results are super-smooth and natural. "

Creater Dan Ritchie talks about Project Dogwaffle
Project Dogwaffle, as it was code-named has been a labor of love since the beginning. I made the program available for free and it quickly gained a loyal following and continues to do so as a commercial product. The name was a reference to that first waffle out of the iron – the dog's waffle. The program has of course grown into a robust tool for digital artists, painters and traditional animators, with features like natural media, animated brushes, onion skin, exposure sheet, real-time animation playback, and a powerful keyframable timeline.

In the latest release, I wanted to expand the program's usefulness in
the video fields by adding built in support for interlaced formats, while taking the existing toolset to a new level of functionality. There's also a new tool for scanning animation frames from a twain source. I'm committed to making this one of the most powerful bitmap based tools for drawn animation out there.

The outstanding capability of the program is in its brushes. Brushes are not just static, grayscale stamps. They're living, breathing and moving, full color entities with a life all their own. You can pick up any part of your image or even an animation and paint with it. You can modify the hue, scale or rotation of a tree to paint an entire forest, or work with a huge assortment of existing traditional media and even make your own.

It's also completely possible to apply keyframed special effect filters to an animated brush, just like you would apply effects in a video editing program. Particle brushes for realistic foliage and bristle brush simulations are just a few more tools at your disposal, and of course there's full tablet support.
