PD Pro Digital Painter 3 is a paint program for the PC which also includes animation features. Started in 1997 as a project to work around shortcomings of the established 'big gun' tools used in the professional community, it is loaded with fast or realtime filters for color enhancing in digital photos and animations, special effects and many built-in natural media brushes.

PD Pro Digital Painter 3 also has powerful user-defined custom and animated brushes, fractal particle brushes, full tablet support, layers, artist guides, powerful color gradients, great text tools, special FX for sky, snow, wet paint and even effects used commonly in 3D CG such as lens flares, as well as full Alpha support with direct painting on Alpha.

Perfect for those who like to explore colors and shapes, and equally useful for web artists, game content creators, cartoonists, designers as well as in digital photography and traditional animation, Project Dogwaffle almost lets you paint the natural way - but without the mess.

Creater Dan Ritchie talks about Project Dogwaffle
Project Dogwaffle, as it was code-named has been a labor of love since the beginning. I made the program available for free and it quickly gained a loyal following and continues to do so as a commercial product. The name was a reference to that first waffle out of the iron – the dog's waffle. The program has of course grown into a robust tool for digital artists, painters and traditional animators, with features like natural media, animated brushes, onion skin, exposure sheet, real-time animation playback, and a powerful keyframable timeline.

In the latest release, I wanted to expand the program's usefulness in
the video fields by adding built in support for interlaced formats, while taking the existing toolset to a new level of functionality. There's also a new tool for scanning animation frames from a twain source. I'm committed to making this one of the most powerful bitmap based tools for drawn animation out there.

The outstanding capability of the program is in its brushes. Brushes are not just static, grayscale stamps. They're living, breathing and moving, full color entities with a life all their own. You can pick up any part of your image or even an animation and paint with it. You can modify the hue, scale or rotation of a tree to paint an entire forest, or work with a huge assortment of existing traditional media and even make your own.

It's also completely possible to apply keyframed special effect filters to an animated brush, just like you would apply effects in a video editing program. Particle brushes for realistic foliage and bristle brush simulations are just a few more tools at your disposal, and of course there's full tablet support.
PD Pro isn't designed to be a feature-for-feature match of any other graphics software. It does have a lot of terrific features, but the goal is a program designed for creative individuals who want to get down and dirty with their pixels. The workflow is based around the idea of making pictures, and to that end, we designed the interface around the user.

Color mixing is out in the open where you can get to it quickly,
not hidden away in a dialog box, and you have your choice of mixers to suit your needs. Brushes can be created on the fly. You can pick up a full color image, or even an animation, and just paint with it. Whenever feasible, our filters were designed to work full-screen, in real-time. There's no waiting to see what you get - you just get it. Even our animation system is designed to work in real-time, so you see what you get without having to build a preview!
